Rest and be thankful.

Teslin –> Whitehorse (110 miles)

I woke up to it raining outside my tent. I was in no rush to get moving since I was taking a rest day in Whitehorse, which is only two hours away. I laid in my tent until the rain died down and grabbed breakfast, complete with caribou sausage, at the motel near my campsite.

The ride to Whitehorse was pretty uneventful and wet. Most of the time all I saw were rolling hills of green pines and got hit by light showers. In Whitehorse, I decided to stay at an Airbnb and I couldn’t have chosen a better rest day. It ended up raining for most of my stay. My place was huge and allowed me to lay out all my gear and hang my tent to dry it out. I also needed to do some laundry since my jeans were plastered with dead bugs.

I won’t lie, I’ve lived a pretty sheltered and pampered life. I’ve never had to do my laundry at a laundromat. Ever since I lived off campus my first semester at Notre Dame and had to do my laundry at a central building I’ve pretty much made it mandatory that I had a in unit washer and dryer at my place. Luckily all went well, no baby blue socks or ripped clothes.

Like I said before, it rained all day in Whitehorse but I felt lame staying in. I saw on the forecast there would be an hour window where the rain would let up and my airbnb host had recommended a hike up to the cliffs that overlooked the city. After a climb up some stairs and short walk through the forest I emerged with a great view of Whitehorse.

After getting down from the cliffs I had some time before it was supposed to start raining again so walked down to the SS Klondike. I’ve been having a hard time making it to places before they close because I have no sense of time. I haven’t been wearing my watch and there’s no use in using the sun as any gauge. Also, things close abnormally early in Canada. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the SS Klondike, it was closed.

This was supposed to be my rest day so I did just that for the remainder of the night.
